Green Bowl Turning

This 2 day course is focused on green bowl turning.

On the first day we take a two hour nature walk in the woods exploring how to understand, select and harvest the particular wood required to start turning.

The course provides specific techniques for green turning, such as sharpening, selecting the right tools, working on a natural edge bowl, how to balance uneven wood blanks, the chuck and jaws to use, safety rules, storage and seasoning, remounting a bowl and finishings.

Basic experience with woodturning and use of power tools is required.

Location:

All classes will take place in newly established workshop facilities at Piazza Vittorio Veneto 6, San Casciano Val di Pesa (Florence)

To truly experience the Green Bowl Turning, a two hour nature walk in the woods is included (weather permitting). This is to recognise, select and harvest the necessary material directly from its origin.

Please note the activity level for the walk is at a moderate pace, and this may include some walking over uneven terrain and short periods of standing.

Group Size:

For the best experience possible, the workshops are kept to small numbers.

The number of participants is established between 1 to 3 people per course.

Equipment Included:

Each participant will be provided with a smock, safety spectacles and a personal respirator mask.

A set of woodturning tools and lathe accessories will be available for each participant for the duration of the course, with extra tools available if required.

At the end of each course, each participant will be gifted a souvenir brochure about wood turning techniques.


Clothing and Footwear:

It is advisable to wear comfortable sport/leisurewear, or hiking clothing, and closed comfortable footwear.

Catering:

Lunch is provided for the 2 Day Workshops, with morning and afternoon tea or coffee breaks also provided. Water is available all day.

On the first day, a local lunch of traditional Schiacciata, cold cuts and cheese is provided.

On the second day we will lunch in a nearby restaurant in the Chianti hills, tasting typical local food.

All dietary requirements can be catered for, such as gluten free, vegan, vegetarian. Please notify us at least one week prior to your course date.


Courses are held at the following times:

First Day:

Morning 0900 - 1300
Afternoon 1500 – 1900

Second Day:

Morning 0900 - 1200
Afternoon 1500 - 1800

Non-inclusive Costs:

Please note that accommodation is not included in the workshop fee. This will be at your own discretion and cost. We are happy to provide suggestions in the local area.

If you are staying in Florence, transfers to and from your accommodation will need to be checked before submitting your booking.
