Walnut Vessel

I always leave a lot of waste pieces around my shop, sometimes I throw them in the fireplace sometimes I stop looking at them before to leave them. This is a case when I started a new dialogue with a piece I was just throwing in the fire. Some years ago I fell a small walnut tree near my workplace, I made a lot of bowls out of it, but some scarves remained on the ground for a long time before I put them aside for fire. When I found this piece on my hand I noticed it was affected by some fungus by a spalting effect on the end grain. So I decided to save it and give it a turn on the lathe. Here’s the result, a fine vessel with a natural long edge on a side. Finished with sunflower seeds oil to leave a satin surface on it.
