Bowl Turning Basic


This basic course is intented for people who want to start bowl turning.

The main focus is to resolve any issues which beginners might encounter when they first start making a bowl; the tools to use, tool sharpening, selecting the wood, preparing the wood, understanding the direction of wood fibres, designing, measuring, knowing safety rules, how to use a chuck, how to store the wood, and what finishing to use.


No experience necessary.


Bowl Turning Intermediate


This course is intended for those who already have some experience and would like to upgrade their skills. The course is mainly focused on sharpening tools, shear scraping, selecting and collecting woods, storing the blanks, setting up a bowl production, learning how to use coring systems, upgrading your chucking system, remounting a bowl, and seasoning.


Experience in bowl turning is required.


Green Bowl Turning


This 2 day course is focused on green bowl turning.


On the first day we take a two hour nature walk in the woods exploring how to understand, select and harvest the particular wood required to start turning.

The course provides specific techniques for green turning, such as sharpening, selecting the right tools, working on a natural edge bowl, how to balance uneven wood blanks, the chuck and jaws to use, safety rules, storage and seasoning, remounting a bowl and finishings.

Basic experience with woodturning and use of power tools is required.


Hollow Form Turning


This 2 day course is focused on Hollow Form Turning.

On the first day we take an informative and interesting two hour nature walk in the woods exploring how to understand, select and harvest the particular wood required to start turning. The course provides specific techniques for hollow form turning, such as sharpening, selecting and creating the right tools, understanding wood fibres, working on a natural edge form, solving problems regarding bark inclusions, how to measure with instruments, and without them, how to balance uneven wood blanks, faceplates, the chuck and jaws to use, safety rules, tips and tricks, storage and seasoning, remounting and finishings.

Previous intermediate experience with woodturning and use of power tools is required.


Individual Bowl Turning


This course is intended as a private series of lessons, according to the particular request and individual skills of each student.

It can be focused on all aspects concerning bowl turning, such as basic bowl turning, green bowl turning, production turning, and many other techniques.




All classes will take place in newly established workshop facilities at Piazza Vittorio Veneto 6, San Casciano Val di Pesa (Florence)


To truly experience the Green Bowl Turning and Hollow Form Classes, a two hour nature walk in the woods is included (weather permitting). This is to recognise, select and harvest the necessary material directly from its origin.


Please note the activity level for the walk is at a moderate pace, and this may include some walking over uneven terrain and short periods of standing.


Group Size:


For the best experience possible, the workshops are kept to small numbers.


The number of participants is established between 1 to 3 people per course.


Equipment Included:


Each participant will be provided with a smock, safety spectacles and a personal respirator mask.


A set of woodturning tools and lathe accessories will be available for each participant for the duration of the course, with extra tools available if required.


At the end of each course, each participant will be gifted a souvenir brochure about wood turning techniques.



Clothing and Footwear:


It is advisable to wear comfortable sport/leisurewear, or hiking clothing, and closed comfortable footwear.




Lunch is provided for the 2 Day Workshops, with morning and afternoon tea or coffee breaks also provided. Water is available all day.

On the first day, a local lunch of traditional Schiacciata, cold cuts and cheese is provided.

On the second day we will lunch in a nearby restaurant in the Chianti hills, tasting typical local food.

All dietary requirements can be catered for, such as gluten free, vegan, vegetarian. Please notify us at least one week prior to your course date.

Non-inclusive Costs:


Please note that accommodation is not included in the workshop fee. This will be at your own discretion and cost. We are happy to provide suggestions in the local area.


If you are staying in Florence, transfers to and from your accommodation will need to be checked before submitting your booking.
