Bronze Echo
Wood : London Plane
Size: 31 × 31 × 14,6 h (cm)
This piece comes from the same London plane timber as the previous bowl I shared, but its character took an entirely different path. Before turning it, I let the wood sit and oxidize naturally, allowing time and air to leave their quiet trace on the surface. That slow change gave the material a warm, bronze-like tone that I only fully discovered once the form emerged on the lathe.
The bowl was turned in a single continuous process. Despite working the piece from start to finish in one session, it moved very little, just enough to remind you that this is a living material, shaped by tension, moisture, and memory.
Its profile recalls an ancient vessel: open, balanced, and quietly monumental. The interior is polished to a soft sheen, revealing the fine grain and depth of the oxidized London plane. For the exterior, I chose a gentle brushing, creating a tactile contrast that enhances the sense of age and gives the piece a subtly weathered presence.
A contemporary bowl with an almost archaeological echo, warm in tone, simple in form, and shaped by both patience and intention.
